I like this a lot. I’d prefer it to be standard if a 4 cylinder, or get the V6 if you can with a 2WD on steelies, because that’s an excellent engine.

Whenever I go to my cousins house I wonder why I don't live on Vancouver Island

Just priced out a WT 4x4. $28,000?

Is that considered affordable today?

Nope.. Nopin the hell out. A brand new truck shouldn’t cost a third of what my first house cost.

Yikes....that’s rather offensively high. I need more income before I can consider a new vehicle anyways. Also, very jealous that’s a third of your first house. The cheapest detached home you can get where I live is “only” $900,000-$1,000,000

Jeebus! $900,000? I bet I could get a third of Iowa for that.

Vancouver is not a cheap place... :/ it's gotten rather insane in the last couple years. A friend that bought his house for 600k in 2006 just got it appraised for 1.7 last year

Now I can see how $30k would be cheap.

Heck, the house I’m renting right now was only $67,000 last year. On a “lake” and an acre and a half.

What are you Canadians up to?

Oh man that sounds nice....its just Vancouver and Toronto, for a number of mostly infuriating but sometimes good reasons. On the other hand, I’m at my cousins place on Vancouver Island, about three hours from where I live including the ferry ride, and it was only $200k 4 years ago, 6 bedroom 2 bath extremely well built house with that view behind the truck.

Enough to make one think about moving out of the city

In my opinion, WT > base. 16" alloys > steelies.

4cyl, 2wd, manual trans... so much better to drive than I expected, too.

$28k is below the average price of a new vehicle right now, so yeah, I’d say it’s affordable. Comparing it to a home price is pretty irrelevant, especially when it seems like you’re located in a very affordable home market. I know people who spend more on rent every year than what our house costs. Which is insane, but it's the way it is.

I think the problem is that when people think affordable truck they think of the Ranger and S10 which were always about the same price range as a compact car. In its last year in 2011 the Ranger base MSRP was $18k. People are expecting these stripper trucks to cost the same as a Cruze not a Malibu or Impala. It’s not really fair - the Colorado is a much better truck - but a lot of us remember high school parking lots filled with Rangers that parents bought for their 16 year olds because they were one of the cheapest new vehicles on the market and cooler than a Cavalier or Escort.

The alloys are nice, I'm just weird and I like the steelies a lot

But then going for the base also means rubber floors and no rear seats. :\

I may be doing it wrong. I’m only a renter right now in my “new” home.

I know for damn sure I’m not tied down to an 84 or 72 month payment on a vehicle that in no way will help with my retirement plans.

15 acres in Wisconsin or a fancy new Truck?

Yeah, I can drive “Crusty” for one more year or so..

That makes sense. I actually had a Ranger in high school and college. These new “light duty” trucks are the size of full size trucks from that era which is crazy.

Heavy equipment is expensive, and when you can afford to spend a little extra to make your time at work more comfortable, you do.

That F-450 can tow so much that you need a CDL to max out it’s capabilities. It has more power than a semi. It can also serve as your DD, and your work truck, and it can be used to drive people around in Town Car-like comfort.

The biggest problem with these is that you can get a 4 cyl / manual / 4x4 Tacoma for ~$25k.

The GM trucks will have better brakes, but that’s about it.
